Monmouth old pic

Monmouth is a historical town: the birthplace of Henry V, the home the Charles Rolls (of Rolls Royce fame) and it witnessed the trial of the Chartists in 1840. The Monmouth Beacon of 14 December recalls that an 'association club' was playing in all white at Dixton Road in Monmouth in 1906. Monmouth played Victoria and the Grammar school in the 1905/06 season. Monmouth were joint champions, with Clearwell FC, of the Monmouth and District League in 1925/26.

Monmouth Town defeated Lovell's Athletic 3-2 at Monmouth Sports Ground to win the Monmouthshire Senior Cup in 1940. The Kingfishers still play at Monmouth Sports Ground. Nearly 20 years later, in 1958, Monmouth won 3-0 at Pontllanfraith against Cefn Forest to lift the Monmouthshire Amateur Cup. The following season the Monmouthshire Amateur Cup was retained and the club won the Monmouthshire Senior Cup for the second time.

Monmouth Town's only appearance in the FA Cup was a preliminary round defeat away at Llanelli in 1965. The club won the Gwent Amateur Cup in 1984, 1986 and 1996. At the beginning of 2005/06 season the club adopted the 'Kingfishers' nickname and logo, in homage to a peculiar urban legend, and won the Gwent County Division Two title.

In 2006/07 Monmouth Town finished runners up to Newport Civil Service in Gwent County Division One and gained promotion into the Welsh Football League for the first time in their history. In 2010/11 Monmouth Town won the Welsh Football League Division Three. In the summer of 2011 the club agreed to investment from our Five Pound Football Club.
